Portonkey is a small village in Scotland. Alaina Stephen lived there. In 1994, when she was just 12 years old, she floated a bottle into the sea as part of a school project. Inside the bottle was a small handwritten letter.
In the letter, Alaina wrote her name, age, where she was writing from, etc. She said that if anyone receives the letter, they should reply.
The letter was placed in an empty bottle of a drink called 'Moray Cup' made in Scotland. Alaina handed the bottle to her teacher. The teacher's husband was a fisherman by profession. He threw it into the middle of the sea while he was fishing.
In the meantime, 31 years passed. Suddenly, one day, a young woman named Pia Brodtman found the letter on Lissela, a small island in the Vega region of Norway. She was a German citizen and was volunteering to clean the beach on that island.
Pia was really surprised to receive the letter. Then he sent Alaina a postcard, informing her of the letter. Pia also wrote in the letter her identity, age, interests and where she got the letter.
Alaina is now 42 years old. She said that she could not believe it at first when she received the postcard. Since she was still at the same address, she received the letter directly.
Later, they contacted each other on social media. Alaina said that she was shocked to see the letter intact after all these years. And Pia said that this incident made her very emotional.
A child's little curiosity and a bottle traveled hundreds of miles and reached a new address after many years. It created a connection between people from two completely different countries. This incident really touched our feelings.
